gusle & saz

View all 6 photos...
I met this dude a couple of nights ago, and when i told him i played an instrument, he was hot-damn wanting to show me these that he had picked up in Kosovo. He didn't know what they were or how they were played, and neither did i, but i had some ideas.

The intricately (hand)carved one is a gusle, and it's a very old instrument that's been used in the balkans for a long time in the bardic tradition. (bardic as in just singing tales, not in any sort of magick style) and the other one is either a saz or a ciftli. It's got two strings and is played with a pick, the upper string used for a drone and the lower for the melody.

If i am wrong, someone please tell me! These were so cool i wanted everyone to see them. Both are handcarved.

Beautiful shots of beautiful objects <> Light contrast angle everything

while it was cold, the hills got some snow. I went up and almost got stuck in it, and stomped around in it, and had some fun.

Spectacular
